ABOUT THE COURSE
The purpose of this interactive course is to deepen our awareness of Emotional Intelligence (EI) - the capacity to channel and express one's emotions, and to engage in interpersonal relationships effectively and empathetically.
EI is being aware of our feelings and actions, as well as being socially aware of others. Through lecture and engaging conversations, class participants will discover how they can transform the way they communicate, both verbally and non-verbally.
EI cultivates life skills, learning skills, and leadership skills that can be applied to your personal and professional relationships. EI is also foundational for improving job performance, developing high-performing teams, and sustaining business results.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After this course, the participants will be able to:
- Improve Emotional Intelligence by increasing social and self-awareness.
- Reveal personal 'blind spots' and 'masks' to strengthen personal relationships.
- Describe the characteristics of "common and shared values" and their impact on sustainable success.
- Constructively resolve interpersonal conflicts.
- Implement powerful techniques for active and empathetic listening when giving & receiving feedback.
- Create a foundation of trust by applying Sensitive, Open, and Direct (SOD) two-way communications.
- Describe how constructive conversations build a constructive organizational culture.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Richard (Dick) Orth is an independent Learning Consultant, with over 40 years’ experience as a change leader, facilitator, trainer, mediator and conflict coach. Dick has helped organizations and individuals to improve their capabilities in the areas of leadership development, cultural transformation and process excellence. He has led hundreds of global organizational change engagements and trainings by developing capabilities in emotional intelligence, conflict resolution, constructive conversations, team-based decision-making, process improvement and process facilitation. He has been an invited presenter and trainer at various agencies and organizations – locally, nationally and internationally.
Dick is also a mediator and conflict coach with ACCORD – A Center for Dispute Resolution – for over 25 years, focusing on community, small claims and family cases. In addition, he a mediator and conflict coach with NYSAMP (NYS Agricultural Mediation Program) for over 4 years, focusing on family farm transition cases.

All cancellations must be received in writing before the start of the course to receive a refund. No refunds for cancellations or non-attendance will be given after the start of the course. There is a cancellation fee of $20
